How to recycle or compost all our packaging and shipping materials.

Dear Plastic Free Pursuiter, we couldn’t be happier to hear that you’ve taken on the task of living a kinder, more sustainable, and eco-friendly lifestyle. We’re thrilled that our products can play such a big role in your everyday routine and want to give you one solid high-five for choosing to shop sustainably. But what happens after you’ve unpacked, unboxed, or finished a product? Are you struggling to fight off the temptations of the big black bag calling you to throw everything in the trash can? We’ve got it covered!

Here are our top easy tips on how to dispose of our products and their packaging after using them all up.

Received your order?

Here’s where you can chuck our shipping materials:

At Plastic Free Pursuit, we make sure we practice what we preach, which is why all of our products are packaged and shipped 100% plastic-free every time. For those who are interested in the nitty-gritty details of how we achieve such wizardry, here it is!

We use 100% recycled paper for our shipping labels and tape with a biodegradable adhesive. If your package has stuffing, no worries, that’s made from recycled kraft paper. Even our boxes are made of post-consumer recycled material, too! Everything that comes to you in the mail is completely recyclable or compostable, all the way down to our starch-based packaging peanuts that dissolve in water.

I’m into composting, what can I throw onto the heap?

Talking about composting, have you started your own heap but are feeling a little unsure of what you can add to it? Here’s a list of top things that can go straight to the compost:
Scraps from plant-based foods
Eggshells
Expired herbs and spices
Garden waste, such as tree leaves
Coffee grounds and tea leaves
Wood shavings
Cork
Used napkins and tissues
Natural fabrics such as cotton or linen
Non-glossy newspapers, leaflets, and magazines
Cardboard (such as all the materials we use for shipping)

Wood and bamboo (such as a used bamboo toothbrush after removing the bristles)
Compostable food scrap bags
When it comes to the products you buy from us, there’s no need to think twice - many of the
compostable everyday goods you’ll find in our plastic-free online stores, such as our burlap and
cotton sponges or compostable dog poop bags.

All this talk about compost making you feel ready to start your own?

Let’s Talk Recycling!

If it’s recyclable it can all go in the same bin right? Uhm, NO.

Contrary to popular belief, things don’t just magically disappear as soon as they land in the recycling bin. Even your recycling needs to be sorted to ensure it goes to the right place where it can be fully utilized and not destroyed or discarded. Luckily, our products ensure that you’ll turn into a recycling pro in no time. Here’s what to do when you find yourself a little lost about the ins and
outs of recycling.

Glass Jars - Recycle Friendly.

Have you been stockpiling those jars in the back of the cupboard? Perhaps you’ve ordered some of our Natural Toothpaste, Deodorant Cream, or Yay For Earth Face Lotion. Here’s how you can recycle them!

1. Be sure to rinse out all your jars and remove any labels. Plastic labels should go in the trash, while paper labels can be composted. You can test to see which type of label it is by whether or not it starts coming apart under water (if it does, it's paper based).

2. If unable to repurpose/reuse, recycle glass jar and aluminum lid curbside. Be sure to remove lids before putting into your bin.

3. What if I want to keep all my glass jars forever? We’ve got a plan for that too!
Upcycle your mason jars by turning them into your new favorite drinking glass. Try our Bamboo Mason Jar Lid and turn your trash into treasure that can be used on the daily!

Metal Tins - Recycle Friendly

Our Metal packaging is 100% recyclable. Take our Refillable Vegan Shampoo and Conditioner for example. You can either recycle the bottle and metal lid curbside with metal recycling and the BPA-Free Plastic Pump with plastic recycling or alternatively, Plaine Products offers a "take back program" for all of their bottles. Request a return label here.

Kraft Containers - Recycle or Compost Friendly

Many of our products such as our brilliant Plant-Based Eyeshadow is packaged in our 100% recyclable or compostable kraft container. Due to the fact that the product is also 100% plant-based, there’s also no need to rinse the packaging before composting it. You can’t get more natural than that! Other examples of recycle and compost friendly kraft containers are Vegan Deodorant, Compostable Bandages, Lip Balm, and Laundry Detergent Sheets.

Natural fibers: Recycle with textile recycling or compost.

This refers to all our cotton, linen, burlap, coffee filters and wax wraps. Our Basket Cotton Coffee Filters are made from 100% unbleached cotton and our wax wraps from organic cotton, organic coconut oil, tree resin, soy wax, and candelilla wax.

At Plastic Free Pursuit, we don’t believe that being kind to the planet needs to be complicated or hard. That’s why you can always rest assured that all our products are 100% safe to recycle or compost. That's our entire mission!
